INTRODUCTION ON CARE AND ORAL DISEASES OF PETS
The teeth of the animals suffer like ours. They are subjected to much higher stresses which can then fracture or damage themselves more or less durably.
WHAT IS PERIODONTAL DISEASE?
Periodontal disease is the most frequent oral disease in animals. It is an inflammation of the parondonte (elements that surround the tooth: gum bone ligaments) correlated with the presence of dental plaque. Dental plaque is a mixture of biofilm (saliva) and bacteria in the oral cavity. This dental plaque is formed in 24 hours by the colonization in successive layers by bacteria whose self-aggregating and self-adhesive characteristics are remarkable. Dental plaque therefore adheres strongly to the teeth. It begins its formation in the region of the dental neck (tooth and gumline) and evolves in 3 phases: adhesion - colonization - multiplication.
In about 14 days the plaque becomes mineralized to form tartar. Without oral care, this dental plaque progresses in the subgingival region, thus promoting the formation of periodontal pockets in which the development of anaerobic (gram-) bacteria progresses. These bacteria have important pathogenic properties and lead to the destruction of roots and bones.
The nauseating odor of a dog's mouth is abnormal. It is the result of the development of these anaerobic bacteria and therefore of the infection of the oral cavity that results from it:
Severe involvement of the molars and premolars in a Yorshire presence of an important periodontal pocket in a griffin
WHAT IS GINGIVITY?
Due to the accumulation of dental plaque, the free edge of the gum is altered and altered by the bacteria present in large quantities in this region (collar). This results in edema and inflammation of the gums and formation of a periodontal pseudo-pocket. At this stage the disease is reversible and simple oral care and by a specialist can restore a healthy gum. Below is the pathological pathological evolution related to the accumulation of dental plaque and then of tartar on the teeth:
Healthy tooth
Plate in region in the region of the collar
Gingivitis marked and rising and mineralization of the plaque (appearance of the tartar)
Pocket, early periodontitis
Severe periodontitis: irreversible disease
